We’ve all been in a situation where we are itching to explore a different country, a local place or to try a new activity, but our friends and family don’t want to spend the money or don’t have the time. Unsure about going at it alone? I’m here to tell you to do it! We all want to share new and fun experiences with the people that we love but that shouldn’t hold us back from getting out there and doing things that we are really interested in. Life is too short! Here are some tips to make the most of your solo adventure:

1. Try to explore/travel with a group

If you are doing something with a designated group, it is easier to make friends. Most people that do activities in a group are open to interacting with the other group members and at the end of the day, the group activity organizers would have experience on how to make your trip or activity both safe and unforgettable.

2. Don’t be afraid of a little alone time

Solo exploration can be a great opportunity to practise being present and really connecting with and enjoying your surroundings without any distractions. Alternatively, it can offer a break from the mundane and an opportunity for personal reflection. You can use your solo trip as a time to meet new people or just to get back in touch with yourself!

3. Always put your safety first

Before every solo trip, give a friend or family member your itinerary and a contact number for your tour provider or your hotel so that they can call if they don’t hear from you by the time you are supposed to return from your activity. While on the trip, if your instincts are warning you about a person or a situation, distance yourself immediately as best as you can. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

4. Have fun!

Commit to having an amazing time! Be enthusiastic about your adventure and open to the interesting people and things you may encounter. Take calculated risks if they enable you to really jump in and make the most of your solo trip!
