Only Till the Well Runs Dry…

Ever so often, I hear Caribbean people (my people) stating that they wish they had the opportunity to live outside of this region. Usually their interest lies in North America and sometimes Europe. They dream about the fast-paced lifestyle, where the air is rare and they are constantly bombarded by stories of “milk and honey.”

It is even more interesting to me that many of us are unable to see this incredible beauty that has been placed before our very own eyes. We sometimes assume that other countries have less problems than ours and migration would eradicate all of the stress from our lives which can sometimes be, far from the truth.

Now, it should be noted, that I am not against migration nor am I bashing anyone that finds their silver lining in another territory. But, I wish that we can fall so deeply in love with this paradise that we call, home.

Where in the world, can you drive along the seaside and glimpse at the lovely sunset in the distance or taste the rich flavour of a mango; as the juice trickles down your hands?

Where in the world, can you collectively stand at a doubles cart; eagerly waiting to take the first bite of your spicy doubles while enjoying that sensation with friends, family, co-workers or even strangers?

Where in the world, can you relax on the beach without an umbrella because God has provided a natural one for you which are the coconut trees.

The Caribbean Islands are gems. There are so many facets within this region that we have not even explored. Learn to APPRECIATE IT! Go out of your way to ENJOY IT.
